News from BSO

The holiday season is bringing out the best of the best within the ranks of the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and civilian BSO employees are gearing up to help those most in need this year.

Again this year, deputies in District 10 will gather a work detail to pack hundreds of boxes with food and toys for families throughout north Broward. They’re working hard at
Deerfield Beach to get the goodies ready for distribution, scheduled for 7:00 am, Friday, December 21, 2001.

In BSO’s District 9, North Broward, deputies are getting together for the 8th year in a row to wrap toys and gifts to be given away to the underprivileged in the area. Community leaders will join deputies and District 9 commanders at about 6:00 pm, December 21, 2001 at District 9 headquarters, 750 E. Sample Road, in Pompano Beach to wrap the items. The gifts will be delivered to more than 40 deserving families the next day, Saturday, December 22nd.

And, in District 11, Pompano Beach, BSO deputies and dispatchers are adopting a family that is down on its luck. On Saturday, December 22nd, toys, food, and other gifts will be delivered to 54-year old Mary Hurbert and her 11 grandchildren. Ms. Hurbert is permanently disabled from diabetes and two strokes. When BSO heard of Ms. Hurbert’s plight, employees decided to forgo their own gift exchange and instead, pass along the good cheer to the Hurbert grandchildren.

MEDIA PLEASE NOTE: BSO plans to deliver gifts, etc. to the Hurbert family on Saturday, 12/22/01 at about 5:00 pm. The Hurbert address is: 2650 NW 2nd Street, Pompano Beach (Collier City). Should be a great chance to get some truly wonderful holiday footage/photos.
