Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 14-year old boy who had been a charge of Admiral House on the grounds of South Florida State Hospital, 8375 South Palm Drive, Pembroke Pines. Preliminary indications do not suggest foul play.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 04, 2003, Wade Strong had gone to his room to sleep. When a staff member went to the boy’s room at about 5:15 p.m. to administer medication, the teen, with a history of medical troubles, was found to be unconscious and unresponsive.

Responding paramedics were unable to revive the teen and he was pronounced dead at the facility at 5:41 p.m.

The exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is continuing with its investigation with the full cooperation of the Department of Children and Families and the staff and administration of Admiral House.
