Description of Incident:

A construction worker was killed today when he apparently toppled down a ventilation shaft at a nine-story condominium under construction in Hillsboro Beach.

Shortly before noon, workers at the site of the Ocean Grande condo discovered the body of a fellow employee at the base of the ventilation shaft. The victim, a 48 year old man believed to be from Deerfield Beach, apparently died instantly when he fell, possibly from the top floor where he was working.

At the request of Hillsboro Beach Police, BSO Homicide detectives and OSHA representatives are investigating but they report no signs of foul play. The death appears to be the result of an industrial accident, however the Broward Medical Examiner will officially establish the cause following an autopsy.
