Firefighters from all over South Florida and as far away as New Smyrna Beach will test their vehicle extrication skills this weekend as they compete in the Broward Invitational Extrication Competition in Dania Beach.

This event is open to the public and free for spectators who want to see rescue teams from 12 Florida fire departments conduct real-life vehicle extrication using all types of rescue tools and equipment to cut, pry, lift and peel wrecked cars apart to free trapped victims.

Hosted by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and held in conjunction with the 16th Annual First There, First Care EMS Conference, Bass Pro Shops is the perfect setting for the Broward Invitational Extrication Competition, located just west of Interstate 95 at Griffin Road.

Another reason to bring the family out is the Sheriff’s Community Day, happening on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the venue. Join Sheriff Al Lamberti and the men and women of BSO and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue with activities for the kids, including a bounce house, snow cones and more. There will be displays of the BSO Mounted Unit, SWAT vehicles, fire-rescue trucks, patrol cars, safety information, child fingerprinting by Broward Crime Stoppers and much more. Best of all, it’s free!
