Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies at Port Everglades took five stowaways who arrived aboard a freighter from Colombia into custody this morning.

Deputies received information that the five men, all claiming to be Colombian citizens, were hiding among the containers loaded aboard the ship “Madeline” which arrived at Port Everglades after leaving Bueno Aventura (?), Colombia. BSO Area 14 (Port) deputies surrounded the ship and took the five into custody without incident at 11:40 a.m.

Three of the stowaways appeared to be suffering from dehydration and were transported to Broward General Medical Center for treatment. All five are being turned over to the Immigration & Naturalization Service.
