Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a state agency employee Sunday evening after he was observed exposing himself near a park in Deerfield Beach where children were playing.

Robert Herbst, an employee with the Florida Department of Children & Families, was seen walking totally naked in the area of 2582 Natura Boulevard shortly after 5:30 p.m. A BSO District 10 (Deerfield Beach) deputy responding to the scene, located Herbst near 400 West Hillsboro Boulevard, still without clothes and walking toward West Side Park where children were in the playground area.

When Herbst spotted the BSO deputy, he rushed back to his vehicle and got inside. At that point, the deputy approached and asked Herbst to exit the vehicle. When Herbst got out of the car, the deputy asked him what he was doing. Herbst told the deputy he needed to urinate. The deputy also noticed the handle of a gun protruding from a black case on the front passenger’s seat.

Herbst was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm, exposing sex organs in public, and possession of a controlled substance. Herbst said the pill in his possession was for medication, but he could not provide a prescription or the bottle the pills came in. He was released from the Broward Sheriff's Main Jail Monday night after his $2,100 bond was posted.
