SHERIFF HONORED AS ‘MAN OF THE YEAR’ BY SHOMRIM SOCIETY
DATE: November 7, 2013 PIO NUMBER: 13-10-07
“Sheriff Israel has demonstrated, in less than a year in office, that his priorities include fighting crime, supporting the men and women who do the work of the Broward Sheriff’s Office and reaching out to various groups within Broward County to foster partnerships between BSO and all members of the community,” Shomrim Society President Dan Rakofsky said.
The award will be presented Sunday, Nov. 10 at the annual gala of the Shomrim Society, a fraternal and charitable organization of law enforcement officers, firefighters and other active and retired criminal justice and public safety professionals, most of whom are of the Jewish faith and/or heritage. The organization's efforts benefit law enforcement causes, scholarships and Jewish charities. Sheriff Israel is a member of the organization's advisory council.
Additionally, Lauren Book, abuse survivor and founder of Lauren's Kids, an organization that works through the legislature and in the schools to prevent child sexual abuse, will be another award recipient. The gala will take place at the Aventura-Turnberry Jewish Center. For more information, visit www.southfloridashomrim.com online.
