PIO Number: 02-12-50

BSO Case Number: TM02-11-1039

Victim(s): Irving Rosenberg, 74, male, 2603 NW 103 Ave., Sunrise (DECEASED)

Suspect(s): Seymour Schuss, 68, male, 7712 NW 78 Place, Tamarac

Description of Incident:

A 68-year-old Tamarac man was booked at BSO’s main jail today after being charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 74-year-old movie patron.

Seymour Schuss surrendered at the jail at 10:30 a.m. after learning that a capias charging him with Manslaughter had been obtained by the Broward State Attorney’s Office. His bond was set at $10,000.

Schuss was first arrested by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on November 18th, charged with Battery for punching Irving Rosenberg, 74, in the face outside the Tamarac Cinema on November 8th. After Rosenberg died November 24th at University Medical Center the case was reviewed by BSO Homicide detectives, who conferred with the State Attorney’s Office to determine how charges should be upgraded in light of Rosenberg’s death.

According to witnesses, Schuss punched Rosenberg one time after Rosenberg told Schuss’s wife to “shut up” as they stood in line to buy tickets to the matinee. The punch sent Rosenberg reeling to the pavement, where he struck his head and suffered the fatal injury.

If convicted of Manslaughter, Schuss could be sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined $10,000.
