Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff's Office Robbery detectives are releasing a composite sketch of a suspect who took advantage of a kindhearted Tamarac woman and tried to rob her after forcing his way into her apartment.
Shortly after noon on Thursday, May 30th, the unidentified suspect knocked on the door of the victim’s residence, located in the Springhouse Apartment complex at 5654 Rock
Island Road. The suspect, pretending to be a Jehovah’s Witness, told Juliette Gayle his vehicle had overheated and he asked for some water. Gayle closed the door and left the suspect outside while she went to get some water. As she turned around from her kitchen sink holding a jug of water, the suspect was standing behind her.
As Gayle walked the suspect toward the front door, he thanked her for her assistance then suddenly removed a black semi-automatic handgun from the waist of his pants and pointed the gun directly into her face ordering her not to make a sound. Gayle ran and tried to lock herself in a bedroom, but the suspect overpowered her and pushed her into a dresser. Gayle’s parents, who were over visiting at the time, heard the commotion and tried to come to her aid. Following a brief scuffle between the suspect and the victim’s father, Gayle’s parents escaped through a back door to get help for their daughter. During the scuffle, Gayle was able to call 911. Fearing capture by BSO deputies, the suspect fled out the front door of the apartment. Fortunately, no one was injured during the ordeal.
The armed suspect is described as a black male, 45 to 50 years old, six feet two inches tall and approximately 180 pounds. Anyone with information on the identity and/or whereabouts of this individual is asked to call BSO Robbery Det. Christopher Schaub at (954) 321-4270 or call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS.
