- The “hole-in-the-wall” gang
Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are trying to track down the “hole-in-the-wall” gang, responsible for the recent thefts of thousands of dollars worth of hi-tech equipment.
Investigators believe the thieves used sledgehammers to smash their way into two Deerfield Beach businesses and steal cell phones, satellite phones, and assorted electronic accessories.
The gang hit first on the evening of December 27, 2001 when they broke into a business at 2100 SW 10th Street in Deerfield Beach. Once inside, they used sledgehammers to break through a wall and gain entry to a neighboring establishment, Airwave Wireless. Then, without setting off the alarm, the crooks made off with more than eighty cellular phones.
On January 14, 2002, detectives believe the crew struck again during the early morning hours. The gang used their heavy hammers to smash two large holes in the back wall of GMPCS, a cellular communications supplier at 1923 NW 40th Court in Deerfield Beach. Again, without tripping the alarm, the outlaws made off with more than 250 cell phones and other pieces of equipment.
Investigators believe the crooks may be responsible for at least two other similar burglaries in south Florida over the past three months and have several suspects in mind. If you have any information on the “hole-in-the-wall” gang, call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS, you might collect a $1000.00 reward.
Detectives also want to talk to 37-year old Michael Uminsky, a former employee at Airwave Wireless, one of the victimized businesses. Investigators want to question Uminsky, whose last known address was 3212 SE 7th St. in Pompano Beach, about a prior theft from the business.
If you know the whereabouts of Uminsky, call Crime Stoppers.
