Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating human remains found inside a burning vehicle early Monday morning in a remote area of Weston.

A Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue truck was driving along U.S. 27 around 9:30 a.m. Feb. 10 when they noticed a plume of smoke just east of the roadway and decided to find the origin of the fire.

The crew found a four-door sedan fully engulfed in flames about a half-mile east of U.S. 27 on Southwest 26 Street. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and conducted a thorough search of the vehicle. That’s when they discovered the charred remains of a person inside the trunk.

The remains were transported to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office where they will try to identify the body.
