Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff's Office detectives arrested a man-woman robbery team Tuesday night after they returned to a Pompano Beach department store to continue their shopping spree with stolen credit cards.
An alert security guard spotted the pair in a red Jeep leaving the Wal-Mart store, located at 2300 West Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach, and called BSO. Deputies responded and took Doug Carta and his female accomplice, Lynn Greco, into custody shortly after 9 p.m. at 3 South Pompano Parkway. After questioning the suspects, they were transported to the BSO Main Jail. Carta is charged with strong-armed robbery, kidnapping (for holding the victim against his will), and impersonating a law enforcement officer. His bond was set at $11,000. Greco also remains in jail in lieu of a $7,500 bond. She faces one count of strong-armed robbery.
The robbery took place last Thursday, October 24th shortly after 9 p.m. at Adult Video Connection, which is located at 2500 North Powerline Road. Carta said Greco drove him to the video store where he identified himself as a law enforcement officer and told the victim what he was doing was illegal. Carta escorted the male victim to an area near the clerk, handcuffed him while inside the store, and stole credit cards and cash from the victim’s wallet. Carta said he returned the wallet, gave the victim a warning, and let him go.
After leaving the crime scene, Greco drove to a nearby gas station where Carta changed his clothes before the two went shopping at Wal-Mart and Winn Dixie. Carta said he traded some of the items, he purchased with the victim’s credit cards, for crack cocaine.
When arrested, Carta was in possession of a credit card from another victim, who may have been robbed in a similar manner at an adult video store in Deerfield Beach. BSO robbery detectives are continuing to investigate that case.
