Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating the death of a Dania Beach man found injured late last night.

At around 10:45 the evening of Tuesday, April 30, 2002, passersby called for help after finding 69-year old Robert Whiters on the sidewalk outside 605 SW 12th Avenue in Dania Beach. It appeared that Mr. Whiters had suffered a head injury.

Mr. Whiters was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood where he expired a short time later.

The elderly man, who lived at 726 SW 5th Street, was well liked in the area and well known by many of his neighbors.

The Broward Sheriff's Office is trying to find out what happened to Mr. Whiters to cause his death and are urging anyone with information on this case to contact Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
