Tropical storm warning, hurricane watch remain; Broward schools closed Wednesday
The National Hurricane Center has continued its tropical storm warning for the east coast of Florida, including Broward County, from Vero Beach south extending into the Florida Keys. Portions of Florida's west coast are also under the same warning. Tropical storm conditions are expected to impact the south Florida Tuesday afternoon or evening. A hurricane watch remains in effect for our area and from Vero Beach north to New Smyrna Beach on the state's east coast. The Broward School Board announced that Broward County schools will be closed on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30. At a noon press conference Monday, Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne reminded residents that now is the time to prepare for the advancing storm. Sheriff Jenne also warned against price gouging in advance of or following the storm. For information on preparing for severe storm conditions, refer to local media advisories and consult BSO's Hurricane Guide.
