Description of Incident:

A pair of smash-and-grab burglars is wreaking havoc through Broward County supermarkets and convenience stores, going after one thing: cigarettes. In just three days, the duo hit at least eight locations in six cities.

Their M.O. is always the same. On August 5, the busy burglars were caught by surveillance cameras outside the Rite Stop at 4050 N. Dixie Highway in Oakland Park. At around 4:20 a.m., a tan or gold SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, pulled up in front of the business and two white males got out of the car armed with a cement block. They hurled it at the lower glass pane of the front doors and quickly ran in. One suspect jumped over the counter while the second pointed and waited to lend a hand carrying the loot. Once done, the suspect jumped back over the counter and the pair got in the SUV and fled.

The suspects are white males between 20 and 30 years of age, with slim build. One is wearing a white tank-top and blue jeans and his face can be clearly seen on video. The other suspect is wearing a blue, plaid shirt and blue shorts with a handkerchief covering part of his face.

Anyone with information about these burglaries or who recognizes the suspects is asked to contact BSO Detective Armando Hernandez at 954-202-3131 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or www.browardcrimestoppers.org. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.

***MEDIA NOTE: Excellent, color surveillance video of the Rite Stop burglary is available for download at www.sheriff.org.
