BSO WRAPS UP HOLIDAY CRACKDOWN ON CRIME
The Broward Sheriff's Office annual crackdown on holiday crime was a smashing success this past holiday season.
Each year, the BSO initiates “Operation Scrooge”, a concentrated effort to catch pickpockets, shoplifters, scam artists, and others who prey on businesses and individuals trying to enjoy the festivities of December.
From the 3rd through the 24th of December last year, BSO deputies made ten felony arrests, busted five people wanted on warrants, took three people in on misdemeanor charges, identified more than 100 suspicious individuals, and gave personal assistance to more than a thousand holiday shoppers throughout the Deerfield Beach area.
In the same district in 2000, BSO arrested five people on felony charges, took in seven people on warrants, made two misdemeanor arrests, and recovered one stolen vehicle.
Every December, there seems to be an increase in crimes reported near shopping centers and other areas where holiday revelers gather. “Operation Scrooge” is a proactive effort by the Broward Sheriff's Office to target those areas and help cut down on crime.
