CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF DR. KING

Sheriff Scott Israel will be attending several community events honoring the great civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the humanitarian and activist who advocated nonviolence and harmony among all races. The events will be taking place on Sunday, January 19, and Monday, January 20 throughout the county.


Sunday Morning, Sheriff Israel will be a guest speaker at Defending the Dream: 50 Years Later in Sunrise. The event will include a concert and variety show with performances from The Minstrels, Pan Paradise, Giel, Symphony, Brothers, Tamisha Lofton-Lewis, and interfaith praise and worship ministries led by Musical Director Mark McClary.


The following day, Sheriff Israel will serve as co-grand marshal alongside the Dream Defenders at the King Holiday Parade in Fort Lauderdale. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Dr. Martin Luther King Elementary School and will travel east on northwest sixth street to northwest 27 avenue and north to Dillard High School at 2501 Northwest 11 Street.
