Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit is investigating the discovery of human body parts found today in the New River near Fort Lauderdale.

At 1:26 p.m. BSO received a 911 call from someone at Delevoe Park advising that children fishing in the New River had observed body parts in the water. Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed that a head and two arms were submerged in the waterway.

Homicide and Crime Scene detectives were dispatched to the area along with the BSO Dive Team, helicopter and K-9 units. A thorough search was conducted to locate additional body parts and evidence.

The remains, apparently that of a black female, will be examined by the Broward Medical Examiner in order to identify the victim and determine the cause of death. Detectives are currently unaware of any missing women in the area, however missing persons reports will be reviewed.
