BSO Case Number: LL02-03-02427
PIO Number: 02-5-46
Date: March 22, 2002
Place of Occurrence: 4500 NW 36th Street, Lauderdale Lakes

Victim(s):

  • Fifteen-month-old female (name withheld)

Suspect(s):

  • Rosevelt Adescat, 34, 8/27/67, 4500 NW 36th Street, Lauderdale Lakes

Description of Incident:

A 34-year old Lauderdale Lakes man was taken to the Broward Sheriff's Office main jail after detectives charged him with beating a small child.

Investigators from the BSO Abuse and Neglect Unit say Rosevelt Adescat injured the 15-month old girl the morning of March 22, 2002, following an argument with the child’s mother. Adescat reportedly beat the child between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. at the apartment the newly married couple shared at 4500 NW 36th Street.

The same day, the child, vomiting and bruised, was brought to the hospital where doctors found the little victim had suffered a ruptured liver, spleen, and a bruised kidney.

Initially, the mother told BSO detectives that she did not know how the baby had been hurt, however, following subsequent interviews, she admitted that she had been present when the child was hurt and said that she did not do it. Adescat denies harming the child, but based on the medical findings and other pertinent facts, investigators found reason to charge him on May 21, 2002 with aggravated abuse. He is not the father of the victim.

Married in early March, the couple had been living together for about three weeks when Adescat apparently beat the child. The mother is currently pregnant, reportedly with Adescat’s baby.

The injured child has been removed from the home by DCF.
