Description of Incident:

Perfect timing and great police work led to the arrest of two armed robbers despite their efforts to evade deputies and disguise themselves.

Randy Donovan, 24, was accosted by Fritzney Estelhomme, 21, Makendy Demard, 23, and a third unidentified male at 12:32 a.m. this morning (July 25, 2013) outside of 1960 S.W. 41 Ave., #1, Ft. Lauderdale. The three suspects, armed with an assault rifle and a handgun, were apparently looking for a big payoff but when their efforts proved fruitless, they decided to take the victim’s cellular phone, watch and cash. The gunmen ran off just as a Broward Sheriff’s Office patrol car was making its way down the street. The victim flagged down the deputy and a manhunt ensued. BSO deputies, with the assistance of Ft. Lauderdale Police Department, established a perimeter and searched by air and with K-9 units.

During the manhunt Demard forced his way into an apartment and changed clothes in an attempt to blend in with a drinking beer crowd gathered in front of the duplex. Despite his attempts, alert deputies arrested him. A BSO K-9 unit found Estelhomme hiding in a nearby shed, and he was taken into custody. BSO located the hand gun, which had been previously reported as stolen, on the roof of a neighboring building. The rifle was recovered in a nearby alley.

Demard was charged with Home Invasion Robbery and Occupied Burglary Residence. Estelhomme was treated for dog bites to his right leg and was charged with Home Invasion Robbery, Unoccupied Burglary Residence and Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon.

Detectives are searching for the third suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO Robbery Detective Theo Woulard at 954-321-4270 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
