Description of Incident:
A West Park woman who had to flee from her home after coming face to face with an intruder can rest a little easier now that the burglar has been arrested.
Shortly before 9 a.m., February 24, the victim, Hitlen Brice, was preparing to take a shower when she heard an unusual noise coming from the dining room area. Brice went to investigate and was confronted by an unidentified male. The more she screamed, the more the burglary suspect continued to approach. Feeling threatened, Brice ran out the front door to get help from a neighbor.
BSO deputies responded to the 911 call for help. When deputies arrived at the home in the 4400 block of S.W. 40 St., the suspect was gone. He left the scene through the same rear window he broke in order to gain entry to the residence. During his escape, he cut his knee on the broken window leaving behind some valuable evidence. DNA from the suspect’s skin processed at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab positively identified Robert Wimberly, 46, of Hollywood, as the suspect.
Wimberly was arrested Thursday, June 21 for burglary of an occupied dwelling and criminal mischief. Wimberly told BSO South Broward criminal investigations detectives he had planned to steal the victim’s jewelry.
