News from BSO

The Broward Sheriff’s Office today led a multi-agency, county-wide fugitive sweep targeting felons wanted on charges ranging from arson to child abuse, and more.

BSO, together with officers from Coral Springs, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach, Lauderhill, Margate, Miramar, Plantation, The Seminole Tribe, Sunrise, as well as agents from the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and State Department of Probation hit the streets at 4:00am to serve as many of the over 200,000 outstanding Broward County warrants as possible.

Twenty six teams of 4 law enforcement officers pounded on doors, intercepted cars, and entered homes looking for suspects around the county.

The successful sweep captured 66 individuals wanted on charges that included aggravated battery, sexual assault, child abuse, arson, aggravated stalking, robbery and more. Several were also picked up on violations of probation. Among the incidents officers encountered during the sweep were:

o A mother who asked that officers not only take away the son that the sweep team was looking for, but also take away her other son who was in the house as well, (It turned out the second son also had an outstanding warrant, so the team was happy to accommodate mom’s wishes)

o One search for a single suspect in a home led to 4 additional arrests of individuals in the same house when all their names were checked.

o At least one incident of resistance requiring additional deputies to respond to the scene. No one was injured, and the suspect was taken into custody.

The BSO detective who was miked up on the pool video is: Det. John Wright – BSO

The interview @ the end of the tape is: Capt. Jim Polan – BSO SWAT Team

Pool video is available from WPLG-10’s Broward newsroom.
