Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying an apparent drowning victim who died while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Wednesday morning.

Following a 911 call shortly after 10 a.m., a BSO helicopter pilot was dispatched to the area of the 4100 block of El Mar Drive behind the Sea Lord Resort Motel, where he spotted the adult white male about 100 yards from shore. The U.S. Coast Guard assisted BSO’s Marine Unit with recovering the body. No identification was found, but detectives believe the man was in his mid to late 50’s.

Beachgoers told BSO detectives they saw the victim swimming in the in the ocean then a short time later he stopped swimming. Foul play is not suspected, and homicide detectives noted no signs of trauma to the body. The unidentified victim has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
