Description of Incident:
One suspect is in custody facing several felony charges and another is dead after the two robbed a consignment shop in Deerfield Beach late Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., veteran BSO Dep. Frank Wear, on patrol in the area of 3280 West Hillsboro Boulevard, spotted two suspects fleeing Hanky Panky’s after committing an armed robbery. Dep. Wear followed the suspects and notified BSO dispatchers of the incident. The two armed suspects, dressed in white cloth jumpsuits and “Scream” mask, had just stolen jewelry from the consignment shop. Eleven people were in the shop at the time of the robbery, but fortunately no one was physically injured.
Less than ten minutes later, both vehicles collided near the intersection of SW 4 Street and Powerline Road, where Christopher Pucci and Miguel Wagner bailed out of the Honda Odyssey mini-van. Investigators later learned the mini-van was stolen from Sunrise on Tuesday and is registered to a Plantation resident.
Once outside the vehicle, witnesses said Pucci pointed his gun at Dep. Wear and ignored the deputy’s order to drop his weapon. Responding to the suspect’s life threatening actions, Dep. Wear fired his gun and fatally wounded the suspect who was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Wagner, who fled south on foot, was taken into custody without incident about 3:30 p.m. He was located hiding in some bushes on the southeast corner of a BSO Deerfield Beach substation at 580 S. Powerline Road. Wagner is charged with one count each of felony murder, armed robbery with a firearm, and aggravated assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer (machine gun). He is being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail.
Per departmental policy and procedure, this case is also being reviewed by BSO’s Office of Professional Compliance, and Dep. Wear has been placed on administrative leave.
