Description of Incident:

A Plantation woman is on life support after being critically injured last week at a truck stop in Weston. Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives believe new surveillance video will help them identify the man responsible for her being declared brain dead and not expected to survive.

The incident that left Kimberlyn Clarke hospitalized occurred in the parking lot of Café 27 at the Seminole Truck Stop at 4690 US Hwy 27 in Weston. The gathering was described by attendees as Jamaican Night.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. Thursday, September 20, surveillance video released shortly after the incident shows one suspect spraying the crowd with pepper spray, causing the large group to quickly disperse. During the commotion, the suspect’s accomplice grabbed the intended victim’s gold chain.

In the video, both suspects are seen running off camera to the right. Then the victim is seen retrieving his handgun from his car and running after them, only to retreat moments later after spotting an FHP trooper working an off-duty detail at the truck stop.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue paramedics were summoned to the scene and transported Clarke to the hospital in critical condition. Witnesses said Clarke, who was an innocent bystander, was overcome by the pepper spray and fell and hit her head on the rear bumper of a van when the crowd scattered.

In newly obtained surveillance video released by detectives, the suspect is seen in the truck stop convenience store about two hours before pepper spraying the crowd. He was last seen wearing a 2012 Ralph Lauren T-shirt with the American flag on front.
