Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office detention deputies quickly recaptured an inmate who managed to scale two fences at one of BSO’s detention facilities Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 9 a.m., a BSO deputy spotted inmate, John Alfred, just as he cleared a perimeter fence at the Stockade, a minimum to medium security detention facility run by the Sheriff’s Office. Dep. Evis Martinez immediately made emergency notifications and a perimeter was established. Deputies were quickly mobilized and began to search for Alfred.

The escaped prisoner was found less than a block away at the Mars Music Warehouse, when BSO Sergeant Tellifero Isaac and Deputy Joe George observed Alfred’s jail issued uniform protruding from the garbage dumpster behind the business. Alfred was taken from the dumpster and placed into custody shortly after 9 a.m.

Alfred was originally arrested by BSO on January 18, 2002 for tampering with evidence, possession of cannabis, and a misdemeanor warrant for obstruction without violence. He is also being held for Hardee County on a cocaine possession charge. Alfred faces additional escape charges related to today’s incident.
