Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff's Office aggravated felonies detectives continue to investigate a double shooting that sent two Oakland Park men to the hospital late Tuesday morning.
Scott Schofield, 33, is recovering at North Broward Hospital from a gunshot wound to the groin area. Schofield was shot during an altercation at the home of friend Larry Gene Tilson, located at 5324 NE 1st Terrace in Oakland Park. Tilson also suffered a gunshot wound to the right foot and was transported to North Ridge Hospital.
According to BSO detectives, Schofield arrived at Tilson’s residence shortly after 10:30 a.m. Schofield is believed to have been under the influence of both alcohol and cocaine at the time. Both men had made plans to repair an older model camper parked on Tilson’s property. At about 11 a.m., an argument erupted between the two, possibly over money. The argument escalated into a physical altercation when Tilson produced a gun and began to threaten Schofield with it. During the fight, Tilson fired the weapon shooting Schofield in the groin area and himself on the right foot. A witness at the scene transported Schofield to his residence, located just a few blocks away from Tilson’s home, and called 911.
Larry Gene Tilson, who is currently on probation in connection to several Oceola County charges, will be charged by BSO with aggravated battery and violation of probation.
