Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives arrested a 29-year-old church leader for molesting a 9-year-old girl in his congregation. Special Victims Unit investigators are looking for additional victims.

Maher Jair Ortega-Estevez, 29, was arrested on October 29 for molesting a young girl in his home at 588 Trace Cir., Apt. 202, Deerfield Beach. Ortega-Estevez was a volunteer leader at the Assembly of God Bethlehem Ministry and led the church’s Hollywood congregation located at 501 S. 21 Ave., Hollywood. The suspect invited the victim and her family to his Deerfield Beach home on October 6; during that visit Ortega-Estevez fondled the 9-year-old girl in his bedroom.

The victim reported the abuse to her parents and they notified the police. BSO arrested Ortega-Estevez at his residence in Deerfield Beach. He was charged with lewd or lascivious molestation.
