Description of Incident:

In hope of identifying additional victims, Broward Sheriff’s Office elderly abuse detectives are releasing new photos of the suspect’s vehicle in the case of a Lake Worth man charged with preying on the elderly and defrauding a 99 year-old Pompano man of thousands of dollars. So far, media coverage is credited with locating at least 12 more victims.

BSO first learned of suspect John Horn on Friday, October 4th, when BSO District 9 deputies were called to 2635 NW 5th Terrace in Pompano Beach in reference to a possible fraud case. Once on scene, the victim’s son told deputies his 99 year-old father unknowingly entered into a possibly fraudulent contact with a man named John Horn. The contract, which was not drafted on a business invoice or stationary, stated the suspect would pressure clean, seal and paint the victim’s roof for an inflated sum of $8,500. The elderly victim signed the contract and went on to pay Horn $10,500, more than what was stipulated in the contract, by issuing him two checks, one in the amount of $2,500, the other for $7,500 and $500 in cash. After receiving payment, Horn knowingly deceived the victim by simply painting the roof.

Later that day, Horn was arrested when a vigilant BSO District 9 deputy spotted a White Chevy Silverado pick-up matching Horn’s vehicle description provided by the victim. He was released on Saturday, October 5th, after posting a $10,125 bond. Horn will now face additional charges.

Since another potentially fraudulent contract and several paint containers were found inside his truck, BSO detectives are certain more victims are out there.

Anyone who may have been approached or defrauded by Horn is asked to call BSO’s Elderly Abuse Unit at 954-321-4830 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
