BSO Case Number: BS02-10-01708

  • George Goodloe, 99, 2635 NW 5th Terrace, Pompano Beach

  • John Horn, 42, D.O.B.: 06/12/60, 2765 10th Avenue North, Lake Worth

Description of Incident:

A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Lake Worth man accused of preying on the elderly and defrauding a 99 year-old Pompano man of thousands of dollars.

On Friday, October 4th, BSO District 9 deputies were called to 2635 NW 5th Terrace in Pompano Beach in reference to a possible fraud case. Once on scene, the victim’s son told deputies his 99 year-old father unknowingly entered into a possibly fraudulent contact with a man named John Horn. The contract, which was not drafted on a business invoice or stationary, stated the suspect would pressure clean, seal and paint the victim’s roof for an inflated sum of $8,500. The elderly victim signed the contract and went on to pay Horn $10,500, more than what was stipulated in the contract, by issuing him two checks, one in the amount of $2,500, the other for $7,500 and $500 in cash.
After receiving payment, Horn knowingly deceived the victim by what appears to be a coating of black paint on the roof.

Later that day, a vigilant BSO District 9 deputy spotted a White Chevy Silverado pick-up matching Horn’s vehicle description provided by the victim. Horn was pulled over for a suspended tag and was not able to produce a valid driver’s license. Horn also failed to provide a license for the type of work he was performing.

Horn was arrested and was released Saturday after posting a $10,125 bond. Since another potentially fraudulent contract and several paint containers were found inside his truck, BSO Elderly Abuse detectives fear there are more victims out there.

Anyone who may have been approached or defrauded by Horn is asked to call BSO’s Elderly Abuse Unit at 954-321-4830 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
