BSO Deputy Bascone rescues man from burning truck

Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputy Gina Bascone was on her way home from work on Thursday, April 12 when a driver whose truck was loaded with tires flipped and caught fire on I-95 in Pompano Beach after colliding with a car. As the truck driver attempted to escape his burning vehicle, Deputy Bascone, a BSO school resource deputy, and two Fort Lauderdale firefighters, all of whom happened to be in the area, approached the wreck as the driver collapsed onto the pavement with flames still burning his clothing.

As the first and initially the only responders at the scene, Deputy Bascone and the firefighters worked to remove the driver from the vicinity of the flames and arranged transport to North Broward Medical Center where he was stabilized, then later flown by BSO Air Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Burn Unit in Miami.

At a news conference following the incident, Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne praised Deputy Bascone for her heroic efforts to help save a life.
