Boating advisories, closures during Fleet Week

As the Broward Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies welcome the arrival of United States Navy vessels for the annual Fleet Week USA this week, area boaters should be aware of waterway closures and other restrictions in place for the event.

BSO, along with the U. S. Coast Guard and the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission, will close Port Everglades to commercial and private boat and ship traffic from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2005. Additional restrictions will be in effect the week of April 25th on the Intracoastal Waterway, on Whiskey Creek, and at a public boat ramp in John U. Lloyd Sate Park.

Because of the increased law enforcement presence during Fleet Week USA, boaters should monitor channel 16 on marine radios for updates and additional information.
