Explorers program

BSO Explorers learn about jobs in fire rescue and law enforcement.

Did you know that boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 21 can be part of BSO, too?

The Broward Sheriff's Office has two programs that can help you learn more about being a deputy or a firefighter. The Law Enforcement Explorers and Fire Rescue Explorers programs let boys and girls work side-by-side with deputies and fire fighters to see what it like to have jobs that help people and can save lives, too.

The Law Enforcement Explorers Program help deputies with jobs like child fingerprinting, school safety seminars and crime prevention programs. Explorers can also help with special details including traffic control and searches. Explorers who are 16 years of age and older can be scheduled to ride along with BSO patrol deputies in their patrol cars, too.

Fire Rescue Explorers learn how to fight fires and learn the basics of first aid, CPR, emergency medical treatment and how firefighters clean up hazardous materials. The Fire Rescue Explorers also have a program that lets older members join fire fighters and paramedics on actual emergency calls.

Both programs have regular meetings that include lots of training. It's like going to school after school is over. But learning how to do things right is important.

If you're interested in becoming a deputy or a firefighter/paramedic when you're older, the Explorers program at BSO might be for you. Learn more about these programs by linking to these pages on the BSO web site:
