Officer James T. Thomas
Died April 19, 1977
Officer James Thomas served as a police officer for the City of Dania, Florida (now Dania Beach and part of BSO's jurisdiction) and died from a gunshot wound in April 1977.
Officer Thomas was off-duty and in plain clothes when he happened upon an unsuccessful armed robbery at a convenience store in Dania Beach. As two suspects exited the store, Officer Thomas approached them and one fired a handgun, striking Officer Thomas in the head, killing him.
Three members of the notorious Outlaws motorcycle group were implicated in the murder and one, identified by the store clerk, was killed in a traffic accident before he could be apprehended.
