Officer Jerry Genova

Died November 14, 1972

Officer Jerry Genova, 30, was a motorcycle patrolman for the Lauderdale Lakes Police Department (now part of BSO's jurisdiction), when he suffered massive head injuries after striking a car that had turned into his path while he was in pursuit of another motorcycle.

As the accident occurred, Officer Genova flew into the air, striking the pavement which caused his crash helmet to split apart. He was in a coma for five days before he passed away from the severe head injuries.

Officer Genova was about to mark his first-year anniversary with the Lauderdale Lakes department when the accident took place.
