Motorcycle Unit

Extensive training is required to become a member of BSO’s Motorcycle Unit which is called upon for enforcement, investigative and traffic escort functions.

BSO's Motorcycle Unit focuses on traffic enforcement, crash investigations and traffic violation reduction, and also serves at ceremonial events including VIP motorcades, parades and as traffic escorts at special events.

The motorcycle fleet is comprised of Harley Davidson Police Road Kings equipped with 103 cubic inch (1690 cc) twin cam engines.

Each motor deputy is required to attend and successfully pass an extensive four-week motorcycle training program prior to being released on their own. After completion of the basic school, deputies must also attend mandatory monthly training to keep their skills sharp while operating the motorcycle.

Fifty-one members, including four sergeants, staff the Motorcycle Unit.
