Metro Broward Drug Task Force (MBDTF)
The Metro Broward Drug Task Force (MBDTF) is a multi-jurisdictional initiative that the South Florida HIDTA initiated funding for on October 1, 2010. At present the MBDTF is composed of thirteen local, county, state and federal agencies with full-time personnel assigned with the Broward Sheriff's Office in the lead initiative role. The FBI, DEA, Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI/ICE), United States Postal Inspectors Office (USPIS), Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Highway Patrol, as well as the city police departments of Lauderhill, Hollywood, Wilton Manors, Sunrise, Miramar, and Coral Springs all have agents and detectives assigned.
The MBDTF's primary focus is the disruption and dismantling of middle to upper level Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTO) and Money Laundering Organizations (MLO) with ties to narcotics trafficking. Detectives and agents will conduct sophisticated undercover operations into DTO including Consolidated Priority Organization Targets (CPOT), pharmaceutical traffickers and grow house operations. The MBDTF will benefit the community by arresting and prosecuting mid to upper level offenders thereby disrupting and dismantling their organizations. Asset forfeiture will be an integral part of any investigations where significant assets are present.
Cases are developed from confidential sources and informants working under the direction of detectives and agents, from undercover personnel working in the field, as well as from Crime Stoppers tips called in from the public and information relayed from other HIDTA's and law enforcement entities. Visual and electronic surveillance, controlled narcotics buys, controlled deliveries, buy/busts, Title III's, and search warrants are some of the investigative techniques utilized. These cases are investigated, prosecuted, tracked and closed out. Any investigations reaching to geographical or investigative areas not feasibly investigated to their full extent by the MBDTF are referred to the applicable HIDTA or, if no HIDTA is available, to the governing law enforcement jurisdiction.
