Parkland is a predominantly residential community of 11 square miles in northwest Broward County, bordered by Palm Beach County to the north, the Sawgrass Expressway to the south, State Road 7 to the east and a nature conservation area to the west.
Since its incorporation in 1961, city planners and administrators have employed a thoughtful approach to growth and development to maintain the city's park-like atmosphere. Miles of bicycle paths and multi-purpose trails, an equestrian center, recreation fields and parks enhance the quality of life for the city's 21,000 residents.
In February 2004, the Parkland City Commission approved the merger of the city's law enforcement operations with the Broward Sheriff's Office, effective March 1, 2004.
The district has an annual operating budget of approximately $4 million and provides for 33 positions including a district captain, one lieutenant, four sergeants, 24 deputies and other positions.
