Port Everglades covers an area of 2,380 acres and is the 12th largest container port in the United States. The seaport includes 12 cruise terminals serving 16 cruise lines that launch more than 3,000 cruises each year.
Since 1991, BSO has provided law enforcement services for Port Everglades. Specialized resources such as the Harbor Patrol, Investigations Unit, Bomb Detection and K-9 Unit allow the agency to provide full service to the visitors and businesses that travel into or conduct commerce here. Acting as the Port's Facility Security Officer (FSO), the Broward Sheriff's Office manages the Security Operations Center Port Identification Office, issuing and monitoring over 22,000 permanent ID Cards and 15,000 temporary cards yearly.
