Fire Rescue Accreditation
Accreditation is the certification by an independent reviewing authority that an agency has met specific requirements and prescribed professional standards. It also allows for the department to compare their findings to industry benchmarks and best practices. Delivery of Fire Rescue service is improved by:
- detemining community risk and safety needs
- evaluating the performance of the department
- establishing a method for achieving continuous organizational improvements
The Accreditation Team is tasked with ensuring that all documentation and requirements are kept current.
Currently the Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services is preparing for the Commision of Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and is at a status of Candidate Agency. The CFAI is a comprehensive self assessment and evaluation model. It allows for fire departments to examine past, current and future service levels and performances.
The Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services was awarded a three year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) in August 2010. Obtaining the CASS accreditation places our department in a group of very special EMS providers. Less than 400 organizations nationwide have met the CAAS standards and of those a very small percentage are fire rescue based services. As of today, the BSODFRES is the only fire based EMS service with CAAS accreditation in the entire state of Florida and the largest in the country.
In 2007, BSODFRES was accredited by the National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch (NAEMD) in emergency medical dispatch.
