Description of Incident:
One man is dead and another man is facing a charge of felony murder following a botched drug deal that occurred early Thursday morning in Pompano Beach.
Filipe Cruz, 21, of Pompano Beach, was arrested late Thursday night for the murder of 22-year-old Michael Frank. Cruz remains in BSO’s Main Jail without bond.
The fatal encounter occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on November 12 in the 200 block of NE 14 Avenue in Pompano Beach. The victim, Michael Frank, had gone to the area to purchase cocaine from Cruz. After Frank’s friend got the drugs, the friend punched Cruz in the face and attempted to flee the area. As he tried to get away Cruz approached the car and shot Frank, who was sitting in the front passenger seat.
Frank’s friend, whom BSO homicide detectives are not identifying due to the ongoing investigation, immediately drove Frank to North Broward Medical Center and stayed with him until BSO deputies arrived at the hospital. Frank was pronounced dead at 2:32 a.m.
