Place of Occurrence: 300 block of W. Atlantic Blvd., Pompano Beach

Suspect(s): Mitchell Neeley, 30, 10/29/72, male, Bellefontaine, Ohio
Sally Neeley, 31, 6/9/71, female, Bellefontaine, Ohio

Description of Incident:

An Ohio husband-and-wife are currently being held in BSO’s jail, charged with murdering a 41-year old woman in the Buckeye State.

Acting on information provided by Bellefontaine, Ohio Police, Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives staked out several locations before arresting Mitchell and Sally Neeley in Pompano Beach last Friday. Ohio authorities had developed information that the couple was hiding out in Broward County and contacted BSO for assistance in apprehending the fugitives. They were arrested as they entered the parking lot of a check-cashing store in the 300 block of West Atlantic Boulevard.

Mr. And Mrs. Neeley are accused of killing Virginia Grimes inside her Bellefontaine home on October 25th. Grimes had recently befriended Sally Neeley and had allowed her into her home. Following the murder, the Neeleys stole compact disks and cassette tapes and fled in Grimes’ 1993 Toyota Tercel, driving to Pompano Beach. The dead woman’s car was recovered by BSO detectives who obtained a search warrant, along with Bellefontaine Police, and found the murder weapon, a knife, inside the vehicle.

Both suspects gave statements to detectives, admitting their involvement in the murder. They said they killed Grimes to obtain her car and allow them to travel to Florida. Mitchell Neeley, a career criminal, told investigators he knew he was heading back to prison and wanted to see the ocean first.

Neeley and Neeley will be held without bond pending their extradition to Ohio.
