CARJACKING SUSPECT SOUGHT BY BSO

Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff's Office robbery detectives are releasing surveillance video in the hopes of identifying a carjacking suspect who sped off with a Fort Lauderdale woman’s car shortly after she pulled into an Oakland Park gas station for a carwash.
On Saturday, June 5th, the victim, Mona Fields, arrived at the Shell gas station at 3091 North Dixie Highway shortly after 3 p.m. and drove her car into the hand carwash area. Fields left her 2001 Honda Civic LX with the gas station’s carwash worker and went inside Shell’s convenience store. That’s when the suspect entered the driver’s side of Fields’ dark green, 4-door Honda Civic with Florida tag U32RZB.
When the Shell employee, Rene Salmeron, confronted the suspect, he claimed to be the driver’s boyfriend. Not believing the suspect, Salmeron opened the driver’s side door and tried to remove the car thief from the vehicle. When the carjacking suspect put the car in reverse and accelerated, he knocked Salmeron to the ground before fleeing the scene. Salmeron sustained minor injuries. No one else was hurt.
Even though the carjacking was not caught on surveillance video, the suspect was seen walking outside the front window of the gas station. The suspect is described as a white male, between 35 to 45 years old, about six feet tall, with short hair a mustache and medium build.
