Who can apply to become a Civilian Volunteer?
The Broward Sheriff's Office encourages all segments of the community that meet our minimum requirements, to participate in the Civilian Volunteer Program.

Are there deadlines for applying for a volunteer opportunity?
No - The Civilian Volunteer Program is on-going and we are able to accept applications throughout the year.

How many hours per week can I volunteer with the Broward Sheriff's Office?
Each Civilian Volunteer can complete from 2 to 30 hours per week, all depending on their availability and the assignment.

I'm a High School Student - can I volunteer for my High School Community Service Hours?
Yes! Please be sure to bring the Student Volunteer Log Sheet from your school! (must be at least 16 years of age)

Can I apply to be a Civilian Volunteer if I am a retired law enforcement officer / correctional officer or if I've retired from the military?
Yes! Retired law enforcement officers, correctional officers, and military personnel are welcomed and encouraged to apply!

What will I be doing as a Civilian Volunteer?
Civilian Volunteers can have the opportunity to assist the agency in numerous activities, including but not limited to:
- Administrative/Clerical assistance
- Fundraising with the agency's Special Olympics & Relay-for-Life projects.
- Special event assistance
- Crime Stoppers Tip-Line
- Emergency Operation Command—Hurricane assistance
- Field Work (i.e. Adopt-A-Highway Clean-up, Shred-A-Thons, K-9 trails etc.)
- Newsletter production assistance...and much more!
