External Affairs
The Department of External Affairs is comprised of three divisions: Media Relations, Crime Prevention and Crime Stoppers.
Media Relations Department prepares news releases, co-ordinates print and broadcast coverage of agency events and acts as the liaison between BSO and the local, state and national media at crime scenes and other activities that generate media interest.
Crime Prevention is responsible for all public safety initiatives, printed material (including brochures, posters and ads), BSO's internal and external websites and all employee communication.
Crime Stoppers began in Broward County in 1981 to assist criminal investigation detectives. The Broward County Crime Stoppers Unit is assisted by a Board of Directors responsible for fundraising. The Board sponsors various events including an annual golf tournament, the annual Crime Stoppers Gala, and other events to fund the reward account. Donations from local businesses and citizens are also encouraged. All monies raised for the reward fund are used only for that purpose.
