Communications Technology Division
BSO's Communications Technology Division is responsible for developing the strategic direction, engineering and operations associated with the Broward County Regional Public Safety Communications Infrastructure, and for the radio and data communications systems through which BSO and county's municipal public safety organizations communicate.
The Regional Public Safety Communications Infrastructure permits Broward County municipalities to connect to shared applications such as the Computer Aided Dispatch system that facilitates a fire-rescue unit closest to the scene to respond first. The division is also responsible for ensuring radio interoperability among different agencies; for the Regional Public Safety Wide-Area-- and Air Mobile Wireless Local Area Networks; for the Mobile Data equipment used by public safety vehicles; and for developing and maintaining the Public Safety Infrastructure Annual Technology Plan.
The division is comprised of the Program Management, Radio Operations and E-911 Wireline & Wireless Program groups.
The Program Management group provides planning, engineering, project management and operational guidance for BSO's public safety applications and for the regional communications infrastructure.
The Radio Operations group handles the engineering and operations oversight for all BSO radio systems which include the 800 MHz Smart Zone system, the medical communications (MedCom) system, fire alerting systems, RF wireless modems and tower site equipment. This group also programs and repairs the agency's portable radios and maintains all Broward County government radios.
The E-911 Wireline & Wireless Program group provides fiscal administration, technical planning, engineering, implementation, and management of the maintenance program for all 14 Broward County Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).
Over 12,000 radio users throughout the County and all 14 PSAPs rely on the Communications Technology Division for efficient and reliable voice/data communications and E-911 program services.
