Major Betty Williams

Assistant Director, Department of Detention, South Operations

Major Betty Williams began her career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 1989, as a detention deputy. Throughout her career, she worked in various areas within the Department of Detention (DOD), including the Central Intake Unit, direct supervision, mental health, and the Compliance Unit. She has served as the DOD event report coordinator, the inmate grievance deputy and as a classification deputy. Williams was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 1998, and then went on to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in July 2003. After one year of working as the shift commander of the Central Intake Unit, she was appointed as the executive officer of the Conte Facility, Paul Rein Facility and at the North Broward Bureau. In July of 2013 Williams was promoted to the rank of Captain, Commander of the Main Jail Facility and in January of 2015 was make Captain, and Commander of the Conte Facility. Another promotion for Captain Williams was in order, for July 2015, she was promoted to the rank of Major in the Department of Detention, South Operations. Major Williams attended the University of Florida, and is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program and the Southern Police Institute University of Louisville Command Officers Development Course. She is also a Certified Jail Manager through the American Jail Association and a Certified Promotional Assessor.
