ROBBER GETS AWAY WITH MONEY TO BURN, LIGHTERS TO BURN IT WITH

Detectives are asking for the public's help to identify the convoluted criminal who wanted more out of his robbery of a Dania Beach convenience store than just money; he also wanted about half a dozen disposable lighters.

Just before 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 8, a silver-colored Ford Explorer with silver chrome rims pulled into the Mobil Gas Station at 2109 Griffin Road. A man wearing a black hoodie, black shorts and a black mask exited the front passenger side of the SUV. The masked man walked into the convenience store and immediately pulled out a black handgun. He cocked the weapon, pointed it at the clerk and demanded the money in the registers.

Once the armed robber had the two register's drawers, he spontaneously grabbed a handful of lighters from a nearby display and walked out.

A customer was entering the store as the robber walked toward the exit. The bystander did his best to stay out of the robber's way, even going so far as to hold the door open for him.

The robber and the driver of the SUV fled in an unknown direction.
