Description of Incident
A man crossing a major road in Lauderdale Lakes was fatally struck Saturday night and a Broward Sheriff's Office investigation into the crash is underway.
At 8:15 p.m. Feb. 10, the driver of a 2017 Nissan Versa was headed east on West Oakland Park Boulevard, near the 3500 block, when the pedestrian stepped off a median and into the driver's lane. According to detectives with BSO's Traffic Homicide Investigation unit, the man crossed mid-block and outside of a designated crosswalk.
Following the collision, the driver stopped and remained at the scene. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded and took the pedestrian to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. THI detectives are temporarily withholding his name until his next of kin is notified.
At this time, detectives don't suspect a mechanical malfunction, excessive speed or driver impairment as contributing factors in the crash.
