MAN, 80, KILLED IN POMPANO BEACH CRASH

Description of Incident:

Traffic homicide investigators with the Broward Sheriff’s Office are looking into a crash that killed an 80-year-old Pompano Beach man on Friday night.

Just before 7 p.m. Aug. 18, James F. Stewart was headed west on Northeast 14th Street in Pompano Beach and attempting to turn south onto Northeast 27th Terrace when his Lexus was struck by a BMW that was headed east in the right lane. On impact, both sedans left the road and knocked a concrete utility pole from its base.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced Stewart dead. The other driver, Maxx Bernstein, was taken to Broward Health North where he was treated and released. Florida Power and Light also came to the crash site to secure the utility lines.
